19 August 2024 – Tahiti Day

I had a good night’s sleep and was now back in Tahitian time.

It was not long before the jobs started. We were having breakfast in the sun when the engine and generator an arrived to check on everything. We started up the generator which needed the air cleared from the fuel. It started well after that and ran well. However, there was a small coolant leak and once things were tightened and all was good. We then started the main engine which had been serviced and all went well. I was glad that both these vital pieces of equipment had had some vital tlc. Whilst we were sorting things out the sail man came with the mainsail which had been repaired. However, we cannot fit it until the foil has been repaired.

Once our jobs were done we headed into Papeete and went to the market which is quite large. You enter it through the flower market first with the wonderful flowers and the great flower smell of a flower shop. There was some great fresh fish which we bought- swordfish and tuna. We bought some lovely fresh fruit and vegetables and then put them back in the car. We bought some street food which we took to a park near the front to eat and then went to a bar on the sea to have a Hinano to wash it down.

We then went to find the chandlery from where I bought the freezer parts and a new battery and it was more like an order place. We then had a special coconut ice cream which was delicious and then went to another chandlery and hardware store.

We returned to Stormbird and provisioned. It had been good to see some more of Papeete and to visit the market again. It had been a lovely day and I had got back into the Tahitian rhythm again.

We were just in time to meet Happy Hour at Casa Banca the local restaurant and we had a lovely meal. Time for bed and hopefully we will move on tomorrow to Morea.

In year two I will be going from New Zealand in early January 2025 across to Sydney and up the Eastern Australian Coast, Indonesia and then through Bali, Singapore and on to Thailand to end year two about the end of November 2025. I will need some more crew.
