29 August 2024 – Tahiti – Crew Change
Keith Winstanley flew in on the early fight from San Francisco and I met him from the taxi about 6.00am. He had spent a few days with his son in SA and was full of beans.
He had kindly brought some honey (from his own beehives which has become legendary on Stormbird) gin and whisky etc. We had a leisurely breakfast with Mark and Corinne and then tidied things up etc Mark hired a car and took Corinne to the hospital late morning for her operation.
I took Keith for a tour of the marina and we then washed down Stormbird which was still covered in salt from our crossing from Moorea. She was looking a lot better when we finished. We therefore felt we had earned a beer and some lunch at the Casa Blanca restaurant which was nice. It was great to catch up and chew the cud as it were in lovely weather and in a lovely setting.
After lunch we headed to Carrefour to get some provisions and we bought what we needed with some nice fruits etc.- which we have been having regularly. We hoped that Mark would be back for supper.
Once done we had a cup of tea and heard that Corinne had had her operation which had gone well. However, Mark was going to stay with her for the afternoon. He later said he would stay with her for the night to give her support. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
Keith and I chilled and had a light supper of salad and cheese and bread etc. We met a couple going back to their dinghy. He was English and she German. They had been here a year and had been travelling on a boat some 8 years. It was interesting to talk to them and their insights on Brexit.
The parts for the main foil are on way and hopefully will be here on the 7th September. The water maker man comes tomorrow.
We hope Mark and Corinne will return tomorrow. I did not take a picture today so today’s picture is of our view again across to Moorea.
Crewing Opportunity Year Two
In year two I will be going from New Zealand in early January 2025 across to Sydney and up the Eastern Australian Coast, Indonesia and then through Bali, Singapore and on to Thailand to end year two about the end of November 2025. I will need some more crew.
